Perched on the slopes of Signal Hill, overlooking Table Bay, the Bo-Kaap is as idiosyncratically ‘Cape’ as the spicy scents and flavours that waft downhill from its eccentrically colourful cobbled streets.
Our walk through the historic Malay quarter of Cape Town takes us through its nooks and crannies, its legends and secrets, as we hunt for the sources of those wonderful aromas and discover the distinctive cuisine of the Cape Malay community.

Featured on TV (Mnet, SABC3, RTL), in magazines (Winescape, Food & Home, Lonely Planet) and in the press (Cape Argus, Cape Times) the Cape Malay Cooking Safari is a truly special Cape experience, and a model example of the andulela philosophy of giving back to the communities that welcome us. A number of home businesses have sprouted up in this area as a direct result of the interest generated by this unique tour.

Your guide will lead you on a leisurely stroll through some of the more historic streets, giving you a chance to appreciate the extraordinary collection of pre-1840 architecture that resulted in this area being declared a national monument.
Then its time to follow our noses towards the scents of ginger, coriander, cardamom, cinnamon, and chilli which drift tantalisingly from the storefronts and cafés, as we learn about the ingredients to make a typical Cape Malay dish.

It’s “hands-on” during the informal cooking workshop which follows in a Bo-Kaap family home. We learn how to mix Masala, fold Samoosas, and how to balance the delicate flavours of a Cape Malay curry.
Over a glass of faloodah (a traditional, lightly rose-scented milk drink) our hostess and cooking instructor will tell you more about the ways in which food, history and religion are interwoven in the Bo-Kaap culture.

Then it’s time to sit back, relax, and appreciate your handwork as you dig into a full course traditional Malay Meal.

Cape Town is one of the most spectacular places in the world to paraglide. Lion’s Head and Signal are the only sites that we fly from because of their location and the stunning views of Table Mountain and the Cape Town area. There are many other flying sites nearby, including, Sir Lowry’s Pass (just past Somerset West), Franschoek and Hermanus. Tandem paragliding instructional flights are a great way of getting into paragliding or just experiencing the joy of freeflight. Flights last anything from 5-30mins.

No Experience Required

As a tandem paragliding passenger you do not require any previous knowledge of paragliding at all. Your pilot will brief you on everything you need to know shortly before the flight. It is important that you listen to the instructions of the pilot and to have total confidence in his abilities. Take offs are easy (just a few steps usually) and landings are generally soft (most often we land on large grassy fields with no obstacles or dangers.

What should I wear ? 

• Closed shoes, preferably lace up shoes like sports shoes (required)
• Long pants (recommended)
• Light jacket or wind breaker (recommended)
• Suncream, hat and sunglasses (recommended)

How Long will the flight last ? 

Anything from 5 to 30 minutes.

“5 minutes! That’s really short!” We know and we agree. We like to have long flights as much as you do. However, paragliding is weather dependent and the duration of the flight depends on the amount of lift available at the time. This is constantly changing and flight durations vary throughout the day and from day to day. If you want a guaranteed flight time then gliding is not for you.

There are a number of fantastic hiking routes to the summit of Table Mountain that require moderate fitness and offer an extraordinary nature experience right in the heart of the city.

Your expert guide will ensure your safe passage to the top of this iconic mountain and back down again.

If you find you are too tired to walk down, you have the option of taking the cable car (bear in mind that the cost for this would be for your account).

This is an ideal way to experience the glorious nature of Table Mountain.  We guide you on one of the most famous routes, where the Cape Epic prologue is held, along the lower slopes offering fantastic panoramic views towards Rhodes Memorial.

We return via a circular route passing through Deer Park. This adventure is suitable for experienced cyclists as well as those who want to try off-road biking.

Experience visual arts in a unique setting that offers a multisensory experience. We visit the spectacular Zeitz MOCAA (Museum of Contemporary Art Africa), the largest museum of contemporary African art in the world.

We join a guided tour led by curatorial staff, presenting highlights from the museum’s current exhibitions. Our journey of exploration continues with a visit to the Norval Foundation that houses one of the largest private collections of South African contemporary art and is considered a centre for art and cultural expression.

Curatorial staff will guide us through some of the exhibitions, discussing works, providing background on the show and artist.

Celebrate the vibrant diversity of Cape Town’s special Gin variety with its distinctly South African flavour that reflects the biodiversity of the region.

Enjoy three craft gin tastings and tour the most southerly craft distillery on the Cape Peninsula.

Our journey of discovery begins at the Woodstock Gin Company, distillers of fynbos infused South African gin with subtle undertones of buchu and wild rosemary.

Then we’re off to the Cape Town Gin & Spirits Company, to sample handcrafted, small batch Gins, infused with handpicked Rooibos, vibrantly red in colour and a distinctive taste.

Our final tasting and distillery tour take place at the Deep South Distillery, known for crafting award winning artisanal spirits in small batches following a very hands on approach.

Both of its gins are gold medal winners that pay tribute to the unique flora and surroundings of the Cape Peninsula.
