Etosha Zambezi & Vic Falls

10 Day Namibia, Etosha, Zambezi & Vic Falls

Fully Escorted and Great Value

Highlights:

  • Etosha National Park
  • Bwabwata National Park – Zambezi
  • Kwando River
  • Chobe National Park
  • Victoria Falls

Note  – This is a Group Tour conducted with other tourists

Day 1 – Wed:   Etosha National Park

You will depart Windhoek in a northernly direction, passing cattle farming areas and bushland to the Etosha National Park, famous for its vast amount of wildlife and unique landscape. In the late afternoon, once we have reached our camp located on the outside of the National Park, we have the remainder of the day at leisure.

Overnight: El Dorado Lodge or similar

Day 2 – Thurs:   Etosha National Park

The day is devoted purely to the abundant wildlife found in the Etosha National Park, which surrounds a parched salt desert known as the Etosha Pan. The park is home to 4 of the Big Five – elephant, lion, leopard and rhino. The Park was proclaimed as Namibia’s first conservation area in 1907 by the then Governor, von Lindequist. Despite the size of the Etosha National Park, only the southern edge of the pan is accessible to visitors. Game viewing in the park is primarily focussed around the waterholes, some of which are spring fed and some supplied from a borehole, ideal places to sit and watch over 114 different game species, or for an avid birder, more than 340 bird species. Popular game species such as giraffe, blue wildebeest, plains and mountain zebra, hyena, lion, leopard, antelopes such as kudu, oryx, eland, as well as some of the endangered species such as Black rhino, cheetah and the black-faced impala are all found here. An extensive network of roads link the over 30 water holes allowing visitors the opportunity of a comprehensive game viewing safari throughout the park as each different area will provide various encounters.

Overnight: La Rochelle Lodge or similar

Day 3 – Fri:    Kavango Region

After breakfast, travel north towards Namibia’s lush Kavango region. En route, you will pass numerous villages lining the roadside. Arrive at the lodge just outside to Rundu, known for its rich selection of hand-made wooden crafts. With its magnificent woodlands and perennial rivers, the Kavango region contrasts sharply with the rest of Namibia. Large swathes of tall woodland, riverine forests, floodplains and reed-lined channels dominate the area. This is also the area where you will see many of the traditional huts and homesteads still in popular use today. At our lodge, we can enjoy an optional Sundowner boat cruise on the Okavango River.

Overnight : Taranga River Lodge  or similar

Day 4 – Sat:   Mahango National Park

After breakfast, follow the route of the Okavango River into the Zambezi Region. Lush, green, riverine – that is what the Zambezi region looks like. This juxtaposition is what makes Namibia the “Land of Contrasts”. The area is typified by perennial rivers and large forests of trees. Whereas most of Namibia is arid, this area is lush, the soil rich and the wildlife plentiful. It is a lively hotbed where one can see subsistence and cattle farming and the well-known traditional wood carvings. From the banks of the Okavango River directly at the footsteps of our lodge we have a magnificent view onto the Popa Falls, a series of small rapids in paradisiacal environment before arriving at our lodge on the banks of the Okavango river and close to the Mahango National Park where the following two nights are spent along the lush vegetation. The rooms award uninhibited views onto the Buffalo Park across the river. Optionally you may enjoy a late afternoon boat cruise on the Okavango River or short walk to a local Habukushu village. The lodge also offers Wellness treatments.

Overnight:  Shametu River Lodge or similar

Day 5 – Sun:  Mahango National Park

After an early breakfast, we travel into the Mahango National Park. Being Namibia’s smallest but most densely populated National Park, the visit will be rewarding in terms of wildlife and bird watching. The Mahango Game Park has a high number of elephants, as well as fair numbers of antelopes which are scarce or not seen in other parts of Namibia. These include the roan and sable antelope, tsessebe and the red lechwe. The park is also home to several sitatunga. The Mahango National Park is an excellent destination for bird watching with over 400 species to be spotted.

Overnight:  Shametu River Lodge or similar

Day 6 – Mon:    Bwabwata National Park

Depart the Mahango National park and travel across the Zambezi Region, (previously called Caprivi) to the lush woodlands of the Kwando River. Hundreds of elephants, large Buffalo herds and numerous antelopes roam these majestic riverine woods. With over 400 species of birds, this area counts as one of the best birding hotspots in the whole of southern Africa. After settling in, you can optionally participate in an afternoon nature drive that takes you into the Bwabwata National Park. Should the road conditions here permit, enjoy a scenic stop at the famous Horseshoe bend, where at times hundreds of game species gather to quench their thirst.

Overnight:  Chobe River Camp  or similar

Day 7 – Tue:     Chobe National Park

After breakfast, travel across the border to Kasane, a small and bustling town right on the edge of the Chobe National Park. The accommodation for the following two nights are in a special corner of the African wilderness, where two mighty rivers meet, a wetland paradise that is a haven for nature and wildlife. Discover the wonders of this magical destination. Here wildlife roams freely in profusion and diversity. It is home to the largest concentration of elephant in Africa, while other game consists of large herds of buffalo, puku, lechwe, bushbuck and kudu. Other significant species such as lion, leopard, wild dog, sable and roan antelope are encountered in many areas of the adjacent game reserve. In the afternoon we recommend an optional Chobe sunset river cruise along the National Park to experience the multitude of game species found along the banks of the Chobe River.

Overnight:  Chobe Safari Lodge or similar

Day 8 –  Wed:   Victoria Falls

Early this morning we take part in an optional game drive through the Chobe National Park, offered by the lodges own activity centre. With a cup of coffee or tea enjoy the sunrise and natures awakening before departing on an open game drive with lodge rangers, exploring the national park and see the forage of wildlife along the Chobe River such as elephants, Lechwe, Roan or Waterbuck. Returning to the lodge breakfast is served on the terrace overlooking the river. After breakfast on the Chobe River Front our guide takes us across the border to Zimbabwe, where we reach our final destination on this Safari. The afternoon is available for an amplitude of activities offered in and around Victoria Falls.

Overnight: Shearwater Explorer Village or similar

Day 9 – Thurs:  Victoria Falls

Together with our guide, join a local guided excursion to Victoria Falls to discover why the Victoria Falls is one of the seven natural wonders on Earth as we explore it on foot. This dramatically beautiful event is accompanied by a deafening roar and fine spray that arcs up into the sky, giving the falls its local name: Mosi-oa-Tunya – the “Smoke that Thunders”. Afterwards, visit a craft market where handmade crafts of the local inhabitants (optional can be purchased before returning to the hotel, located centrally in town. Here the remainder of the day is at leisure to relax or participate in the adventure-filled optional activities.

Overnight: Shearwater Explorer Village or similar

Day 10 – Fri:    Departure

Depending on your departure flight, your guide will transfer you to the Victoria Falls International airport.

From Arusha, depart early and drive to Tarangire National Park.

Close to Arusha, 118 kilometres away, Tarangire National Park gets its name from the river that threads its way through the length of the reserve.  It is famous for its dense wildlife population which is most spectacular between June and September, the dry period.  During this time, thousands of animals – elephant, buffalo, giraffe, eland, wildebeest, kudu, hartebeest and the rarely seen oryx – migrate from the dry Masai steppe to the Tarangire River looking for water.  Lion, leopard and other predators follow the herds.  Tarangire has the largest population of elephant of any park in the northern

During your private tailor-made safari, you will be accommodated in or near the parks as described below.  The days will be spent giving you the best game-viewing experience possible in each park, with either morning and afternoon game drives or full day excursions.  If you are opting to do a “drive-in” safari, the drives between parks may be broken with cultural visits to local villages or historical hotspots and further game-viewing, guaranteeing that your transfers are far from boring.  Your itinerary is fairly flexible from day to day and options may be discussed with your guide before setting off for the day.

After lunch we make our way up the escarpment to the highlands of Ngorongoro with spectacular views of Lake Manyara below  -with a game drive en route to your next camp

The Ngorongoro Crater, at 2,286 metres above sea level, is the largest unbroken caldera in the world.  Surrounded by very steep walls rising 610 metres from the crater floor, this natural amphitheatre measures 19.2 kilometres in diameter and 304²km in area.  It is home to up to 30,000 animals, almost half of which are wildebeest and zebra.  Buffalo, elephant, hippo, hyena, jackal, lion, ostrich, serval, warthog, bushbuck, eland, hartebeest, reedbuck, waterbuck and huge herds of both Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelle are easily seen on the crater floor.

Thanks to anti-poaching patrols, the crater is now one of the few places in East Africa where visitors can be certain of seeing black rhino, with the number now approaching 25.  Leopard may occasionally be seen in the trees of the forest surrounding the crater, while cheetah are also present.  Countless flamingo form a pink blanket over the soda lakes, while more than 100 species of birds not found in the Serengeti have been spotted.  The crater, having been  declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, lies within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, which covers more than 8,300²km.

Day 4 & 5 : Southern Serengeti

The Serengeti together with Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Park form Africa’s most famous wildlife park.  The image of acacia trees on an endless grass plain epitomises Africa for many, and then add a Masai warrior and some cattle to the picture and the conversation need go no further. The annual wildebeest migration through the Serengeti and the Masai Mara is the largest mass movement of land mammals on the planet – with more than a million animals following the rains.  But that is not where the game viewing ends; large prides of lions, elephants and giraffes in grasslands, gazelles and eland to mention but a few

Itinerary

Day: 1-2 Your Honeymoon Adventure Begins – Victoria Falls

Arrival at Johannesburg OR Tambo Airport, and met by our representative. You will be handed over your travel pack, and assisted with your check in for your flight to Victoria Falls.

On arrival at Victoria Falls Airport, a road transfer will take you to the Colonial Victoria Falls Hotel – situated within walking distance to the might Falls, a perfect location to spend the following two nights.

Victoria Falls ” Mosi-oa-Tunya ” – directly translated to ” The Smoke that Thunders ” is an awe-inspiring sight to behold, particularly in rainy season, where the Falls literally emit a thunderous noise – making it often difficult to hear!

Late afternoon brings a romantic cruise down the Zambezi River – sipping cocktails while enjoying your first African Sunset.

Although it is quite easy to walk to the Falls yourselves to view this incredible waterfall – a 2-hour guided tour of the Falls can be arranged!

Apart from the Falls, there are also many activities to enjoy in this area, for those with a sense of adventure, or for those who want to enjoy the local culture!

Inter-acting with the local people or perhaps walking with Lions! A helicopter flight over the falls provides a birds eye view – and although only 13-minutes long – it is well worth the photographic opportunity.

Day 3: Relax in Johannesburg

Perhaps enjoy an activity in the morning, before your road transfer to Victoria Falls Airport for your flight back to Johannesburg – arriving in the late afternoon.

Spend the night in Johannesburg relaxing or perhaps shopping!

Road transfer from Johannesburg OR Tambo Airport, to the Michelangelo Hotel, situated over the heart of Nelson Mandela Square, with a host of top restaurants, boutique shops and movie theatres.

Day 4-6: Safari in the Kruger National Park

Excitement builds as you get ready to depart on the next legg of your Honeymoon adventure in one of the best game viewing areas of the Kruger National Park – The Sabi Sands Reserve.

Road transfer to Johannesburg OR Tambo Airport, and you will be whisked away on a scheduled flight to Skukuza Airport, followed by a road transfer to your safari lodge

You will spend three nights on Safari at Sabi Sabi Little Bush Lodge  – a luxury lodge built on the banks of the Sabi River.

The Sabi Sands Reserve hosts the Big Five, and is particularly well known for it’s Leopard sightings.

Two exciting game drives per day in open Game Viewing vehicles await you – with experienced rangers and trackers taking into the African Bush to spot predators and an array of other wildlife. Incredible photographic opportunities await you daily and exciting activities.

Return to your lodge each evening after your night game drive and discuss your sightings beside a crackling fire and a glass of excellent red wine.

Lounge in the sparkling pool or perhaps pamper yourself with a spa treatment – this is all about luxury and romance!

Day 7: Your Adventure Comes To An End!

Your last early morning game drive may just bring you that elusive leopard sighting!

After a hearty breakfast, depart on a direct flight from Skukuza  back to Johannesburg – taking home with you memories to last a lifetime!

Costs for this itinerary will vary according to the time of year travelled,  your preferred standard of accommodation and various other factors depending on your specific requirements and interests

This package can easily be tailor made to suit your specific Honeymoon requirements and budget.   Travellers can easily add on other areas in South Africa such as Cape Town or Botswana.

You tell us your preferred standard of accommodation and we will design you a honeymoon to remember.

Game drives in open 4×4 safari vehicles are conducted in the Savute area, including the Savute Marsh, and a visit to the ancient San rock paintings at Gubatsa Hills. You will most likely see nearly all the major species in the area, such as giraffe, elephant, zebra, impala, tsessebe, roan, sable, wildebeest, kudu, buffalo, waterbuck, warthog, eland, as well as predators; including lion, hyena, jackal, cheetah and possibly wild dog. The second biggest summer zebra migration in Africa can be seen at Savute. This starts around November / December when the rains fall through to March / April when they end – this is a sight not to be missed!

In the evening, the sun sets behind flocks of marabou storks roosting in the bare trees and the woodland kingfishers sing you to sleep on moonlit nights.

The summer season in Botswana welcomes a large variety of migrant birds from the Northern Hemisphere which use the Okavango Delta, as preferred areas for breeding and feeding.

Day 6: Botswana – Okavango Delta

Exploring the Delta by motorboat or canoe (mokoro), combined with walking on surrounding islands in the concession, gives guests the chance to experience a classic Okavango Delta safari. Guided nature walks on the various islands allow for opportunity to track some of the larger species that inhabit this water wilderness. Bird-watching opportunities are outstanding as more than 400 species of birds flourish in this wet wonderland, and fishing for bream and tiger fish is also offered on a catch and release basis. Birdwatching is excellent throughout the year, with powerboat visits to the heronries on Godikwe and Xakanaxa Lagoons a must, especially in the summer months.

From October until the first rains fall from late November to early December, the weather can be tremendously hot, during both day and night.
