This panoramic nine-day sojourn commences in Pretoria and winds its way to journey’s end in Cape Town and includes a golfing and non-golfing itinerary. The first leg traverses the majestic Drakensberg escarpment en route to the low veld of Mpumalanga.

The next morning, guests tee off at one of South Africa’s finest courses, Leopard Creek, or enjoy a game drive in the famous Kruger Park followed by lunch and a game drive in Swaziland’s Mkhaya Reserve. Over night, the train continues south to Hluhluwe, the oldest game reserve in Africa. After a scenic early game drive, the train travels through the lush cane fields and rolling hills of KwaZulu-Natal towards Durban.

An early morning tee off at Durban Beachwood Country Club is followed by a drive through the breathtaking Valley of a Thousand Hills to join the train. Meanwhile, non-golfers enjoy a morning visit to Ardmore Ceramics Gallery.

Lunch and an afternoon at leisure are enjoyed by all as the route towards Bloemfontein takes the train past Lesotho and the highest mountains in the Drakensberg range at 3 482m. After a morning tour of Bloemfontein, the journey continues southwards overnight to Port Elizabeth where non-golfers experience the ecologically diverse Addo Elephant Park and golfers take on the challenge of Humewood.

An early departure takes the train to an ostrich farm in Oudtshoorn then on another outstanding descent down the Montagu Pass into George. Meanwhile, golfers enjoy an afternoon game at the renowned Fancourt Estate before joining non-golfers for dinner at the hotel. The following morning is spent visiting the natural paradise of Knysna and its surrounds while golfers experience Oubaai – Ernie Els’s first signature course in South Africa.

The train then travels the spectacular Garden Route towards the Cape winelands. After a visit to the KWV Brandy Distillery in Worcester the next day (or wine tasting in Ashton), this magnificent expedition ends in Cape Town

Pretoria to Cape Town

Day 1

Depart Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria at 10h00. Lunch and dinner are served as the train travels east towards Mpumalanga.

Day 2

Early morning game drive in the Kruger Park. Brunch is served in the dining car/s as the train travels through Komatipoort to the Swaziland for an afternoon game drive at Mkhaya.

Golfers tee off at Leopard Creek Estate at 07h00 before rejoining the train in Swaziland.

Day 3

Enjoy and early game drive in the oldest reserve in Africa, Hluhluwe-Umfolozi in Zululand.

Brunch is served in the dining car/s as the train heads towards Durban for overnight.

Day 4

Golfers disembark for a 07h00 tee off at Durban Beachwood Country Club followed by a scenic drive to rejoin the train at Lions River Station. The train departs Durban at 06h00 for Lions River where non-golfers visit the famous Ardmore Ceramics Gallery at 10h00. Guests return to the train for lunch and depart for an overnight stop in Kroonstad.

Day 5

Enjoy a city tour of Bloemfontein at 10h00. Return to the train for lunch and depart for Port Elizabeth.

Day 6

Disembark at 09h00 for a tour of Addo Elephant Park before returning to the train for lunch. At 08h00, golfers disembark for a 09h30 tee off at Humewood in Port Elizabeth. The train departs Port Elizabeth at 16h00 for Oudtshoorn.

Day 7

At 10h00, enjoy a two-hour visit to an ostrich farm followed by another outstanding rail descent down the Montagu Pass into George. Golfers transfer to Fancourt Golf Estate at 10h00 for a game at the renowned facility before joining non-golfers for dinner at the hotel.

Day 8

Disembark the train at 09h00 for a ferry ride, lunch and tour of Knysna.

Golfers tee off at 07h00 at Oubaai Golf Club – Ernie Els’ first signature course in South Africa.

Return to the train for lunch and begin the journey to Cape Town along the spectacular Garden Route.

Day 9

Arrive in Worcester at 11h00 for a tour of the KWV Brandy Distillery.

The train traverses the Cape winelands before arriving at Cape Town Station’s Platform 23 at 17h00.

Pretoria to Cape Town Departure Dates 2014

Cape Town to Pretoria

Day 1

Depart from Platform 23 at Cape Town Station at 09h20.

Arrive in Ashton at 15h30 for a wine tasting at Zandvliet Estate. Travel the spectacular Garden Route towards George.

Day 2

Disembark the train at 10h00 for a ferry ride, lunch and tour of Knysna. Golfers transfer to Fancourt Golf Estate at 10h00 for a game at the renowned facility before joining non-golfers for dinner at the hotel.

Day 3

Golfers transfer to Oubaai (Ernie Els first signature course in South Africa) for a 07h30 tee off before rejoining the train in Oudtshoorn. At 08h00, non-golfers depart George for Oudtshoorn arriving at 11h00 for a visit to an ostrich farm.

The train departs at lunch for Port Elizabeth.

Day 4

Game drive at 08h00 in the Addo Elephant Park. Golfers transfer to Humewood for a 07h30 tee off.

Enjoy lunch on the train as it makes its way to Bloemfontein.

Day 5

Enjoy a city tour of Bloemfontein at 14h00. Return to the train at 17h30 and depart for an overnight at Ladysmith.

Day 6

At 10h50, golfers disembark at Lions River Station for Durban Beachwood Country Club.

Non-golfers enjoy an afternoon tour of Durban. The train departs at 19h00 for Empangeni.

Day 7

Border formalities at Golela at 10h00. Enjoy a game drive in the Mkhaya Game Reserve in Swaziland. Depart at 18h00 for Komatipoort.

Day 8

Early game drive in the Kruger National Park. Golfers tee off at Leopard Creek at 07h30.

Return to the train for lunch and depart for Waterval Onder.

Day 9

Climb the spectacular escarpment to Belfast. Arrive at journey’s end at Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria at 15h00.
