South Africa Delight – 14 day Family Self Drive

A 14 Day Self-drive for the whole family including the magic of Cape Town, the scenic and fun-filled Garden Route and ending with the delight of a Big Five safari in the Eastern Cape

Day 1 – 5 Explore Cape Town

Arrival at Cape Town Airport, and collection of your hire car. Drive to the centre of Cape Town and the vibey Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, where you will be spending 5 fun filled nights at the self-catering Waterfront Village in a 2-bedroom apartment.

You will spend the following few days exploring Cape Town and all the fantastic sightseeing options to be enjoyed by adults and children alike.

Spend a day heading out to Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and Cape Point, where you can see the two oceans of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet. See the African Penguin strutting around on Boulders Penguin Beach, and if a Summer’s Day, take your swimming costumes and towels , and enjoy a picnic lunch on this small and intimate beach.

No Cape Town holiday in complete with going to the Summit of Table Mountain by cable car, walking on the flat table like top with views as far as the eye can see.

Stroll around Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens nestled at the foot of Table Mountain, and buy curio’s at some of the city centre markets, such as Greenmarket Square.

Day 6 Garden Route – Head out to Ostrich Country

Today you will depart Cape Town, and your Garden Route holiday begins. Take a leisurely drive to the Little Karoo, and Outshoorn – famous of it’s Ostrich Farms and Cango Caves.

Spend one night in Oudtshoorn, visiting an Ostrich Farm and learn about the largest non-flying bird in the world. Take home an Ostrich Egg and let your children amaze all their friends.

Buffelsdrift Game Lodge offers tented accommodation and is situated on a small game reserve itself, with optional activities such as Bush Safaris, Elephant Experiences and Horseback rides.

Take time to do a tour of the Cango Caves with it’s dripstone caverns, vast halls and towering formations.

Day 7-8 Knysna – the Pearl of the Garden Route

Depart the Little Karoo and head off towards the coast to the quaint town of Knysna.

Spend 2 Nights at The Rex Hotel in Knysna, ideally situated in central Knysna

Knysna, famous for it’s Oysters is a popular holiday destination with a host of activities available. Spend time cruising on the Knysna Lagoon and take a 4 x 4 ride on a private nature reserve & trail with a tasty lunch.

Quaint shops , walking trails and boat trips make Knysna a fun-filled destination for all ages

Day 9 – 10 Plettenberg Bay – the Jewel of the Garden Route

Not far down the coast, you will find the town of Plettenberg Bay- where you will be spending two nights at the beautiful Hog Hollow Country Lodge.

Plettenberg Bay is the jewel of The Garden Route and is tranquil and charming, hospitable and rather special. Originally christened “Bahia Formosa” (beautiful bay) by early Portuguese explorers, Plettenberg Bay offers the visitor miles of sweeping, unspoilt golden beaches, a dramatic rocky peninsula, intriguing lagoons and estuaries, towering indigenous forests and unpolluted rivers and sea. With its exceptional climate and beautiful view sites over the Indian Ocean, Plettenberg Bay is perfect for tourists interested in exploring, watching or just lazing.

From Keurboomstrand to the Robberg Peninsula there are 15 kilometers of beaches punctuated by the river mouth and an island. The river, lagoon, bay and beaches are much used by fishing and boating enthusiasts and offers the best shore based whale watching of the area.

The Crags is situated 20 km’s from Plettenberg Bay and has become one of the must seen areas, with polo fields, wildlife sanctuaries, theatre, and an abundance of arts and crafts offerings along its vibrantCruise the Crags route.

Nature’s Valley is situated 30km’s from Plettenberg Bay and the most unspoilt of all of Bitou. This little bay’s untouched indigenous trees, forest and beautiful unspoilt coastline has been preserved since the first inhabitants of early times. It is also the only town within a national park.

Nestled in the great forests lying at the feet of the fabled Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma mountains is the quaint hamlet of Storms River offering teeming birdlife, vast expanses of Cape flora, delicate eco-systems in wetlands and lagoons, gigantic trees and adrenaline pumping activities such as the world’s highest bungee jump and tree canopy tours.

Whale Watching, Walking with Cheetahs, Elephant Sanctuary , Birds of Eden and Monkeyland are just bit a few of the amazing sightseeing opportunities in this area.

Day 11 – 13 See the Big Five on Safari

Excitement builds as you drive past Port Elizabeth, to the area of the Eastern Cape hosting Big Five Private Game Reserves.

Spend 3 glorious nights on Safari at Kariega Private Game Reserve at Main Lodge. Stretching across 10,000 hectares of pristine wilderness , Kariega Private Game Reserve will offer all travellers a safari of a lifetime.

Twice daily Game drives in open safari vehicles with experienced rangers to view the Big Five, perhaps the elusive leopard and a family of lions will be enjoyed.

Optional guided bush walks provide a unique experience from ground level, with your tracker pointing out animal tracks and smaller animals.

A safari will offer children an experience like non-other and without a doubt, a true highlight of your South Africa Holiday.

Day 14 Departure

Enjoy your last early morning game activity followed by breakfast.

Bid Farewell to South Africa as you drop off your hire car at Port Elizabeth Airport, in time for your connecting onward flight
