Africa on Foot Camp
General
Located in the heart of the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, Africa on Foot offers guests the opportunity to experience a professional Big Five walking safari in the Kruger. The Klaserie shares unfenced borders with the Kruger, which means wildlife roams freely throughout.
The atmosphere at camp is relaxed. The focus is on authenticity and the “bush” as opposed to luxury. Guests will be made to feel like they are part of the Africa on Foot family. There are only five chalets which means a personalised, intimate service.
There are 2 chalets available for families with adjoining rooms and space for 4 people. A luxury treehouse is beautifully constructed just outside camp for adventurous guests wanting to sleep out in the wild in an elevated wooden “house” on stilts. Two swimming pools adorn the property – one is located inside the camp, which is ideal for families. The other swimming pool is adjacent to the treehouse, a few steps outside of the entrance to camp.
Family Chalets
Two of the 5 chalets are subdivided into two rooms and come standard with an en suite bathroom, mosquito nets, a clothing rack, bedside tables, solar powered lamps, and bathroom toiletries.
Maroela is a family chalet and has a queen size double bed, twin beds and an en suite bathroom. The chalet has two subdivided rooms, with a dividing wall and suitable for parents with children, or four people travelling together.
Hardekool is a family chalet and has a queen size double bed, twin beds and an en suite bathroom. The chalet has two subdivided rooms, with a dividing wall and suitable for parents with children, or four people travelling together.
Chalets
All 5 chalets are of the same standard with en suite bathrooms, mosquito nets, a clothing rack, bedside tables, solar powered lamps, and bathroom toiletries. Three chalets are designed to sleep two people each, and are named as follows:
Ghwarrie: One double bed, en suite toilet and adjoining outside shower. It sleeps a maximum of two guests.
Rooibos has one double bed and an en suite bathroom with shower indoors. It sleeps a maximum of two guests.
Tjankbos has twin beds (can be converted to double), en suite toilet and outside shower. It sleeps a maximum of two guests.
Big Five Walking Safaris
Africa on Foot offers professional Big 5 walking safaris led by highly-qualified and trained field guides.
Walking safaris are done in the morning and take roughly 3 hours. The walks are not strenuous and take place on flat ground. Guests will learn how to track wildlife, read the signs of the bush and learn about the various plant species.
Walks depart at roughly 06h00 and it is always weather dependent. If it proves too risky then rangers will simply take guests out on a game drive instead.
There is nothing better than crouching down behind the shrubbery watching rhino and elephant enjoying their natural habitat.
Traditional South African Dining Experience
We like to give our guests a taste of true South African cuisine. Often we’ll arrange a potjie evening or braai (barbecue) for our guests. A potjie is a large cast-iron pot that is filled with stewed meat and vegetables and stuck in the coals to simmer away.
Game Drives
Game drives are conducted every afternoon at Africa on Foot. All game drives take place in open 4 x 4 vehicles, which allows for 360 degree panoramic views, perfect for wonderful photographic and video opportunities.
The afternoon game drives generally leave at 16h00 (times vary according to seasons) and stop for sundowners at sunset before continuing into the night for a bit of nocturnal wildlife viewing and, finally, back to camp.
A Night of Adventure in a Treehouse
On the outskirts of camp we have a treehouse which is available upon request. You pay extra to stay in the treehouse, but it’s well-worth the adventurous experience.
It sleeps a maximum of two guests. Guests can request a romantic dinner setup for two in the treehouse if they are spending the night there.
The Bush Bar
We have constructed a Bush Bar in the middle of a clearing, complete with a small boma area. The Bush Bar is often used for special events, celebratory sundowners and marked occasions. From gin tastings to Christmas canapés and proposals, the Bush Bar is the perfect place for proper bushveld sundowner session.
Honeymoon Sundowners
The team at Africa on Foot can tailor-make a special occasion for guests, provided it’s pre-arranged. The Honeymoon Sundowner Experience is an additional cost for couples, but complimentary for honeymooners.
