Karisia Tumaren Camp – Kenya
General
Tumaren Camp, situated in the romantic Laikipia region of northern Kenya, is a walking safari outpost allowing for a luxury safari and promising an adventure of a lifetime.
Explore the Karisia Hills by foot or include this camp as part of a camel-supported mobile walking safari, leading the adventurous into wilderness areas not accessible by vehicles and allowing you to enjoy the amazing landscapes, culture and wildlife on offer
At Tumeran Camp, guests have the option of designing their own safari adventure, either making use of the camp as a base, or a starting point for mobile walking safaris into the Kenyan wilderness. At Tumeran Camp, Samburu guided walks, game drives, mountain bikes are available, as well as exciting camel rides.
This lovely tented camp was originally the home of Kerry and James (owners of Karisia Walking Safaris) and it has 6 beautiful sleeping tents, solar lighting and running water. Each tent can fit a family of 4/5 if needed or else kept as a double/twin. Guests staying here do walks, camel rides, picnics, go rock climbing and game viewing from the camp and come back to the camp each day. This camp does not move location. Full board accommodation with drinks, walks, camel rides, rock climbing, market visits, school visits, drives included.
Mobile trips from Tumaren Camp, however, offer a completely different and more authentic walking safari experience. Riding camels accompany walkers , carrying all of the equipment, tents, luggage, and food to each campsite along the way. Camps are either classic or luxury in style, depending on the traveler’s preference. Classic camps utilize large dome tents outfitted with bedrolls, comfy king size mattresses, duvets and pillows, solar lighting, warm bucket showers, and private toilets, while luxury camps carry with them an extra air of elegance in the form of luxury bedding, dressing gowns, director’s chairs, and complimentary spirits.
Each day on a Tumaren walking safari is different from the next. Karisia walking safaris focus on exploring the area on foot, accompanied by Samburu guides and trackers, as well as trusty camel transports. Away from roads and vehicles, guests have a unique opportunity to take in the wide-open spaces and wildlife that Laikipia is famed for, especially the heavy populations of eland, steinbuck, giraffe, Grevvy’s Zebra, and elephant. Lucky visitors may even see spot a few local lions, leopards, cheetahs, and wild dogs. Children especially love Tumaren walking safaris, as it allows them to be outdoors all day, riding camels, fishing, swimming, climbing rocks, and learning about the local ecosystems and traditions from Laikipia Masai trackers.
